It was announced this morning by the Foreign Office that restrictions on non-essential travel to Bangkok have been lifted. Travel insurance firm Go Travel Insurance are advising continued caution, as the political situation in Thailand remains unstable.
The ongoing conflict between the Thai government and Red Shirt protesters had led to government warnings that British tourists should avoid the region. Much of the protest was centred round the shopping district, a popular destination for foreign travelers.
The uprising has since been quelled - with the Thai army bringing an end to Red Shirt occupation 10 days ago – and the night time curfew imposed on the city during the crisis has been lifted. The Prime Minister of Thailand, Abhisit Vejjajiva, has said that order has now been restored to the country.
