Quinn Insurance cuts 200 jobs in Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland employees of beleaguered Quinn Insurance were today bracing for the loss of at least 200 jobs as administrators drew up plans to cull the workforce by a third.
Workers this morning spoke of their shock as details of the swingeing job losses, and how they will impact on the insurer’s Derrylin and Enniskillen operations, emerged amid fears of the massive economic impact on Co Fermanagh.
Administrators Grant Thornton are preparing to brief all Quinn Insurance staff tomorrow in Cavan and are expected to announce a third of the total 2,400 workforce on the island are to be slashed.
It is understood the majority of cuts will be made at the company's biggest centres in Dublin, Cavan, Navan and Enniskillen. It was speculated today that as many as 370 jobs out of a total of 610 could go in Northern Ireland, but the Belfast Telegraph understands that the number will be proportionate to the total job cuts. That figure does not take into account the number of Fermanagh workers who travel over the border to work in Co Cavan.
