Aviva Creates Travel Insurance Add-on After Volcanic Ash Cloud

Following the recent insurance issues experienced by many travellers during the volcanic ash cloud situation, Aviva has announced a travel insurance add-on that may solve such problems in the future. As reported in The Observer on the 23rd of May, this added benefit may help those that suffer from travel problems due to the closure of airspace, airports or ports in certain circumstances.

Will the Aviva Travel Insurance Add-on Cover More Than Volcanic Ash?

This additional benefit is designed to give protection to travellers in the event that they cannot travel/are stuck abroad due to airspace, airport or port closure. This could, for example, happen again if volcanic ash cloud problems re-occur or get worse. The benefit could also cover against other eventualities such as terrorism, prevention of terrorism or pandemics, for example.

What Protection Does Aviva's Extra Travel Benefit Give?

This add-on will give protection to those that have to cancel a trip from the UK as planned because of these kinds of issues. Benefits of up to £5,000 will be given to insured parties for deposit, travel and accommodation costs that will not be paid out by their travel companies.
