Last Minute Travel Deals Still Available MyNC.com
WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -Fewer people are hitting the roads and skies this holiday weekend causing airlines and hotels to make deep discounts.
"Basically the world is on sale," Tony Maupin, who owns Maupin Travel, said.
If you want to get away this weekend, Maupin said the doors are open for last-minute travelers to get in on the deep discounts.
"There are some specials," he said. "There's still some deals out there this July 4th weekend."
July 2 is expected to be the busiest travel day of the holiday weekend at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
However, the number of passengers is still flying below last years levels.
"Across the country, travel is down and we are seeing that here at RDU," Mindy Hamlin, RDU Spokeswoman said. "In fact, the airlines offering service from RDU have actually decreased their schedules by about 18 percent compared to last year."
As airlines scale back on flights, airfare will eventually stop being discounted.
