Local roundup: Scotts Valley secures guaranteed share of baseball title
Taylor Toccalino struck out five batters in five innings of work, and Scotts Valley beat host Soquel 11-4 to repeat as Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League champion on Friday.
The Falcons can earn no less than a share of the title, thanks to Santa Cruz knocking of second-place Aptos [15-8, 8-3] earlier Friday.
Scotts Valley will try to win the title outright on senior day this Tuesday at 4 p.m., when Falcons pitcher Shane Carle witll throw against St. Francis.
Jake Bergman powered the Falcons' offense against Soquel. He was 2-for-3 with three-run home run in the third inning. He also scored twice.
Jacob Czuk took the loss for the Knights [12-7-1, 5-5]. Izaak Silva, Michael Cutler and Chris Stavrenos each had two hits for the Knights. Stavrenos smacked a pair of doubles and drove in two runs.
Erik Bagley had three hits and scored twice for the Falcons. Shane Carle and Nick Mannina also had two hits each for the Falcons.
Sophomore Andy Muller smacked a grand slam, one of three home runs by his team, and Monte Vista Christan pounded Pajaro Valley 16-0 in a Monterey Bay League game shortened to five innings on the mercy rule.
