THE government has been called upon to clamp down on first class airline trips abroad and luxury cars for civil servants, number of seminars, and other exorbitant expenditures as the nation begins to feel the real pinch of the global financial crisis.
To start with, Finance Minister Mustafa Mkulo has been advised to follow in the footsteps of his Kenyan counterpart, Uhuru Kenyatta, by banning prestige 4X4 vehicles and other fuel-guzzlers for public officials and replacing them with much more economical cars.
The Leader of the Official Opposition in the National Assembly, Hamad Rashid Mohamed, yesterday likened the governments 2009/10 budget estimates unveiled on Thursday to the government continuing to partake in a feast during times of famine.
